Our first Grub came to life in 1995, starting as a little character drawn on family birthday cards by Claire. Her Grub got up to all sorts of antics and charmed everybody. He was even turned into a cake for Claire’s sister who, somewhere along the way, had acquired the nickname of “Grub”.

In 2001 Brenda started creating stories around the Grub, adding a family and lots of other insect friends. In the evenings after work, Claire illustrated the stories, bringing the insects to life with little personalities. Brenda loves watching children as they read, seeing their faces light up with surprise and anticipation. So together we worked to provide excitement and engagement through the words and illustrations.

By 2010 we had the beginning of a collection that we called The Grub Tales. In 2012 we decided to join the indie publishing industry to produce the collection as e-books initially, followed by paperbacks. It took over three years of planning, experimenting and exploring the world of indie publishing, with pitfalls, many single steps forward to ten steps back, and finally progress to get to the first successful sale!

We have started on Amazon, Amazon Kindle and CreateSpace, with a view to expanding soon to other platforms in the future.
